How long will I be in there?

A typical pitch runs 22 minutes on air: 3 for the opening, 11 of questions, 6 of offers and 1 to decide.

Questions take half of a 22-minute pitch

Sample of 245 pitchesmedian (the middle value) minutes in each part

A typical pitch lasts 22 minutes on air. Typical here means the median, the middle value: half of the pitches were shorter and half were longer. The opening takes about 3 minutes, questions about 11, offers about 6 and the final decision about 1.

Each bar is the median for the pitches that had that part. When questions came back after the first offer, all the question time of the pitch is added together.

The offers part runs longer when a deal follows: a median of 6.5 minutes, against 3.9 when it ends without one. The episode is edited, so the real session is longer. Plan a short opening and prepare for a long round of questions.
